Mba knowledge, by mba ranking.

I know accounting is math and mainly deals with a company’s money and finance and marketing is just promoting a company. Which is better to have?

  1. It depends on a few things.
    1) What kind of things do you like to learn? Accounting is very technical and rules-based, while marketing is a little more creative.
    2) What kind of job do you want? In accounting, right out of college you can become an auditor, tax accountant, cost accountant, analyst, etc. In marketing, the major is pretty self-explanatory for the titles you’d have.
    3) When are you graduating? In this economy, marketing majors aren’t doing too well in the job market, but accounting majors aren’t really having as much of a problem getting placed. They may start a little later than usual after graduation, but they still have multiple offers. When the economy turns around, it’s a horse apiece.
Overall, it’s really your choice… I’m biased because I’m an accounting grad and I think that if you understand accounting you can understand ANYTHING in business, including marketing. My marketing teacher told me that accounting majors actually tend to do the best in his classes!
Another option is a double major… most business schools make it really easy for you to do that :)
