Getting Into A Good Business School?

MBA school, by mba ranking.

I’m currently 17 right now and am planning on attending Penn State University this upcoming fall. I have not declared my major yet but I’m also certain that it will be something in the business field. I’m going to try really hard to get into a prestigious business school for my MBA but what are the steps in getting there? Not to be demeaning, but my parents know little to nothing about how education works in this nation. Basically I want a layout of the steps I must take to acquire a MBA.
Thanks for your help!

  1. If your goal is going to a prestigious MBA, then you don’t have to major Business. MBA’s curriculum is like undergraduate business school level except you make social connection with people in MBA. So I recommend to major something else, whatever you’re interested in studying and have good grade. Then build a good career and apply MBA. This is because MBA considers your job experience an important factor along with GMAT score and GPA.

  2. You can apply to get into the Business program at Penn State, but still be considered an open major just in the Business program. Then you study basically micro and macro and other general business classes for the first year and some of the second, then that is when you need to decide which discipline you will go into. Declare that then start taking upper level classes and head towards your degree. Once you get your bachelor’s you can go back for your MBA. Also, once you get accepted to your school, you can talk to your advisor for a more detailed program you’ll need to follow.

  3. first, get accepted into Penn State. Declare a major in sophomore year.
Next, find yourself a mentor locally who can sit with you and talk to you about college.
Once you arrive at college, go to class, buy the books, read the books, see your profs regularly, meet with the academic advisors frequently, and try like heck to pass all your classes. Oh, get engaged in some kind of activity (club etc)
THEN, in early junior year, start worrying about the MBA. You will need to take certain prereqs, but not necessarily a BBA track. Watch out for the dreaded ‘finance class’ it is a wash-em-out class. take that first part of senior year. I really recommend that you take an academic major, with some business courses for your free electives, because that plus the MBA will make you more attractive to employers.

  4. Well first of all, Penn State University is known to have a good reputation, so if your accepted that’s a big plus. Here are the steps to get a MBA. First, get your Bachelor’s, if your thinking of getting an MBA it is recommended to get a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Why? since you want to get a master’s in business it is easier to understand and get trough you MBA, when you have already gotten your Bachelors in B.A. Why do I tell you? Experience, I completed my B.A. in Human Resources and can easily get in a MBA program.
Be shure that Business is what your looking for before earning an MBA.
    So its as simple as
    1. Getting your Bachelor’s. Speaking to a School Counselor that your thinking of getting an MBA, that way she will accomadate the requirements as you get your Bachelors.
    2. Applying for MBA.

  5. well, for one, you dont have to get your MBA where you attend college. Although if you want to do that, you have to apply to the college’s MBA program. this happens after you complete you normal business college degree.
I would definitly suggest an MBA program at a school in Philadelphia, like Villanova, Temple, etc. Thats what I’m going to do =)

  6. You basically sit in class and learn

  7. i think that business education is good at the graduate mba level at the top schools such as wharton. however, as an undergraduate program, i think it is a colossal waste because the business program does not really educate the students. they come out knowing very little about history, literature, languages, biology, mathematics, the arts, and so on. my sincere advice to you is this. don’t waste your undergrad college experience in a business program. enter into a good liberal arts or science program and first and foremost get an education. if you can maintain high gpa and then you do well in the gmat you will be all set for a top notch mba program. it would help to get some job experience in the meantime. take a year off after your ba and get into one of the many excellent management trainee programs at a large corporation. if you are lucky, the corporation may partially fund your mba program. it makes me sad to see bright kids come out with a bba in business because they are not really educated and are unable to converse on scholarly topics. they don’t know anything except for some rote stuff about accounting, finance, marketing, and management and i don’t think that’s education.
